David Bellamy's Endangered Wildlife
Description
David Bellamy's Endangered Wildlife is an educational title which is designed to raise awareness of endangered animals and what the threats to their survival are.
The title comes in three parts;* The first part is the an animated message to the player from the future where animals are scarce and the environment is in trouble
- The second part is the Discovery Tour in which the player is shown a world map, they click on a continent to get a closer view and this brings up a map with hotspots for a number of animals. Clicking on a creature gives a picture below which are tabs that give details on Habitat, Food, Lifestyle etc
- The major part of the title is The Discovery Game and for this the player needs to create an identity and sign in so that their progress can be recorded. This starts with a screen showing twenty plus animals whose names are displayed when the mouse cursor rolls over it. Clicking on a creature brings up a screen with a curious tiled grid that is actually a series of cunningly disguised mini games. The object is to remove the tiles and display a picture of the animal beneath;
- Some tiles just disappear when clicked.
- Some tiles disappear when the player clicks on and turns over another tile with the same picture as in a Concentration style game
- Some matching pairs of tiles, the Fun Fact tiles will display a piece of information about the creature before disappearing
- Other tiles are letter tiles, clicking on one of these highlights a row of tiles and a question appears at the bottom of the screen. When the correct answer is entered, as in a crossword game, the tiles will disappear exposing more of the picture
- Other tiles uncover a jigsaw, a sliding block puzzle, a word search puzzle or a game of tic-tac-toe.
- Others present more facts about the creature before they go
The game has four difficulty settings All Easy; Progressive - getting harder the more the game is played; Variable - some easy some hard; All Challenging. Once an animal's picture has been cleared it can be viewed again but the games cannot be replayed by the same player
