Space Jockey
Description official description
Space Jockey is a side scrolling shooter for one player. The goal is to earn as many points as possible by having the player's attack saucer shoot down the varied enemies which fly by. Tanks, jet planes, prop planes, helicopters, and weather balloons will all pass by on the screen and try to destroy the player's saucer. There are even some trees and houses on the ground that can be shot for extra points. The player needs to make sure they avoid colliding with the various enemies and their fire or one of the player's three saucers will be lost. Extra saucers are awarded for each 1000 points earned. Several game variations are included which control the game difficulty, the movement abilities of the enemies, and the movement abilities of the player's saucer.

first sideways shooter, high action and early historical
The Good
This is a game with smooth action and interesting graphics, very clean and exciting; a well designed game. It was produced about 1982-1983; It is an early Kitchen bros. game (Dan or Gary) programmed at Wickstead Design in NJ. Other games from the period are Sneak N Peek, Mouse Trap, then a long line grew out of this effort, including Return of the Jedi Death Star Battle, EggoMania, Qberts Qubes and Little Computer People for Activision.
The Bad
It's not overly complex but has great speed control and smooth action.
The Bottom Line
Not alot of freedom but this is the first sideways shooter and was very popular as one of the Best and First second-party produced games for the VCS/2600
