I can't release the ball. I checked out the help file and the methods don't work. Method 1: click the ball release with left mouse button - nope, left mouse button pressed anywhere only moves the left flipper. Method 2: down key - doesn't work at all. Does it perhaps mean it has to be a numeric keyboard "down"? This would be a problem because, as a currently-laptop-only owner, I don't have a full numeric keyboard at all, only 7890uiopjkl;/ keys which can be used as a numeric keyboard - but only for typing numbers, not for movement.

It works for me as described in the help file, no numeric keypad required:

  1. Click the coin slot to add a quarter
  2. Click the (now yellow) start button
  3. A ball drops onto the plunger
  4. Use the down arrow key or click the plunger to pull back the plunger
  5. Release the down arrow key or mouse button to release the plunger

Note that if some game does require a number pad, if you're running through dosbox you can use the mapper to remap your keys as needed.

It really doesn't work. Neither the down key nor clicking the ball release. Edit: Doesn't work. Bummer. Still, I will keep the screenshots - I guess THIS is screenshot mania... ;) And I will help expand the database by providing a few.
