Hey everyone, I saw that the old Hexplore thread was closed so I bumped it by creating a new one. I, like others, have the problem of making this old game work on my XP, as it crashes every five minutes. All the regular ways to fix this has already been tried, like changing compatibility to 95/98, DOSbox etc etc. I have searched the Internet and only found very few threads, where people had the same problem but no one knew how to fix it. So my question is, did anyone ever make this game work on new computers? Thanks alot

hi! i actually do have a solution.
i tried for months to get this game to play on my new computer, and finally figured out that it crashes because the processors is too FAST for it. if you get a program like this one http://www.majorgeeks.com/CPU_Speed_Adjuster_d5160.html that will slow down your cpu, you can play hexplore again! i usually set mine to...like...5% of the normal speed, just to make sure. i experimented with it for quite some time before i got a setting that didn't still make it crash.
good luck!

If you don't have an older machine to play it on, I'd suggest going to your setup (right when the computer boots), disabling internal and external cache (I think there should be such an option), then booting again with pure DOS. Not sure if there is such an option in Vista, though.

But why do that when you have dosbox?

From the looks of things this is a game for Windows '95 and later and hence the DOSBox talk is a bit of a red herring.

Hi, it' cool that there are stil people playing this game. I played it agaiun only last week and even though it's a little bit annoying at times, the potential for addiction is still there. ;) The trick with the CPU-Speed workes fine for me, but I've got another problem, since I have switched to another computer. I have installed the game, but when I start it I get a "Disc Verification error (1)". Does anybody know what I can do about this? I mean, I could install it and it has been running on another machine.. (both Win XP)
