My wife brought this back with her from Japan, having bought a DS Lite while on her recent trip. I've not gotten too far yet, but I'm both impressed and underwhelmed at the same time.
It's great that the nostalgia factor's there. The way the old meets the new is handled well. It's familiar and fresh at the same time.
My main issue with it is the control. If there's one thing Mario games have been about (dunno about the modern 3D versions, as 3D platformers just never caught my fancy), it's been precision control. New SMB feels floaty. Part of it probably has to do with the flimsy-feeling pad and buttons. The DS Lite buttons are tiny and feel have the feel of the stock Dreamcast controller. Between the loose control of Mario and feeling as though I'm going to break the DS, it makes it harder to get into...
