(CAVEAT: I tried installing this thing, but it seems to be very crash-prone, I can't get it to go past the launcher stage.)
Edit: found a probable culprit; my current video card, a Geforce 315, has a too old pixel shader: v3 (or v4), game needs v5 ... getting an error message about this would have helped with my diagnostics, but the launcher just shut down w/o any logs.
(This card also claims DX11 'feature level 10.1', but there has been complaints from a game needing 'feature level 10.0'?)

Two per week during this sale, they announced 5 initially but then changed it to 6 to keep the pattern, so there will be another Friday.
Trying to draw users I guess, maybe part of the new strategy after the announced changes after last year's reported losses, maybe trying to copy Epic now after all these years of trying to copy Steam more and more.
... of course, copying Epic is not the way to go if you want to turn a profit...

In my eyes GOG can never lose to Steam because Steam forces their platform and Internet connection to play the games. Once you download games from GOG, you never depend on them to play the game.
But sure, because Steam has those things many more new games are added there because publisher and developers of new games don't like DRM-free policy. But then again, GOG focuses on old games as their name implies, so newer games there are just a nice bonus to have there. It was cool to see them add DRM-free version of Witcher 3 back in the days, and when Witcher 4 comes out, that too will be awesome. Not that I'm interested in new games on GOG since I don't use my PC to play new games, that's what my consoles are for anyway :P

GOG stopped being Good Old Games 10 full years ago, and since then they've been focusing more and more on newer games actually. It's just this year that there was that announced change of strategy that'd supposedly return them to more focus on older titles, and there have been a number of releases confirming that.
And of course they'd add CDP's games, they're owned by them after all. Problem is that CDP's games were always the reasons why GOG dropped their values.
And there are a handful of titles that have some more or less obvious DRM: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/drm_on_gog_list_of_singleplayer_games_with_drm/page1
And they also openly stated that they allow some DRMed singleplayer content: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/bgog_2022_update_2b_our_commitment_to_drmfree_gaming_8cb8b/page1 and in more detail at https://www.gog.com/forum/general/bgog_2022_update_2b_our_commitment_to_drmfree_gaming_8cb8b/post198/ So obviously online stuff like multiplayer, achievements or timed events are lumped with "vanities, rewards" and "additional incentives, like cosmetics, that do not impact the single-player gameplay" for which "each developer has the right to decide" how to include them, no DRM-free requirement. But if something can be used in SP, it does impact the SP... Meh.

the funny thing about "old games" is that the AAA titles of 10 years ago are now old games, so they will always have plenty of mid-recent releases to rehash.

Yeah, but the rightsholders of the major titles won't release them there no matter how old they get. Some oppose DRM free on principle, others have their own stores that they want to lock the games on, others just keep milking them for all they're worth as still-current titles, possibly with repeated rereleases...

Thx; it is a bit different as it (being delisted) cannot be found in the normal way through the steam store in the app - and it wants to install immediately. (9.4GB download, so it takes awhile.) Got to do a speed-run I guess to finish it before my Win7 gets the boot from Steam - but maybe it works with Ubuntu. (I see it has a Linux port, but would that be the same download?)

Anyone with an Amazon prime account should have access to Amazon Games where there are free games. I recently claimed Once Upon a Jester, Roguebook, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, SteamWorld Dig 2 and Autonauts. One, some or all may still be available - I claimed them so I can no longer see the expiry date.
Still available are Revita (until July 26th) and over thirty games from SNK which are free until November 30th including Top Hunter: Roddy & Cathy, Soccer Brawl, and Sengoku 2 and Metal Slug 4.

It seems the GOG version is single play and local (split screen) multiplayer, not online, from what I read on GOG:s game page, so I added that and some more tech info to the entry. Unless there is a split, the description might also need some amending now that GOG also has a release, as Steam was specifically mentioned as the only portal previously.
