It was announced today that Gearbox Software will be picking up where 3D Realms left off and finish up Duke Nukem Forever. The game is being shown in a playable state at PAX 2010. All you Duke Nukem fans rejoice that the long, very long awaited game is to finally see the light of day. It's also expected to release before the end of the year.

There's a stream of the game right now. Being hosted by some girl... who points the camera away from the screen. (probably because gametrailers has exclusive rights on the direct feed or something)
TAKE TWO!! fist shake
This might be an excellent time to go through Moby and clean up all the Duke entries. Maybe I'll finally get around to playing the sidescrolling games.

After the gameplay that's described, I can't help but feel disappointed. It's not going to outdo Duke3D on anything but production quality, and the linear, narratively focused approach to progression like Half-Life 2.
13 years for this? I know we all deserve better than Zero Hour 2. :(

There's no way it won't be the greatest game ever made. More than a decade in development, and it even has a beer button!
I am only half kidding.
Also, apparently all it took to get the game finished was to get rid of Broussard.

I'm betting 100 MG points it delayed...yet again...indefinitely.
Who's in?

A couple months ago Gearbox hired Anthony Burch, the guy responsible for the HAWP series, just about the funniest man alive this side of Erik Wolpaw, to work as a writer for an undisclosed upcoming game. A couple days ago, Burch twitters he's got nothing to do with DNF. Thus, Gearbox proves they're unbelievable imbeciles, and give a pretty clear hint that DNF will be a generic piece of unfunny shit, packed with fart jokes and such idiocy. Fuck this garbage.

After they closed down development, a number of the people who had worked on it couldn't let it go, and began working on it by themselves to the point where the PC version was practically finished. Depending on who you ask, Gearbox is either completing some unfinished bits of the game or merely polishing and porting it. Regardless, they're not using their star writer to work on Duke Nukem Forever because there's nothing for him to do.

Gearbox has said that the content is both new and coming from a number of the previous builds. The whole vehicle section, for instance, is from the 07 build. Personally I hope they make a special edition of the game that includes the levels and models from every build of the game just dumped straight into the final engine, playable or otherwise.

I for one am hoping for the best for this game. That would be certifiably badass if it included the original games.
Now friends, I would like to share a few dumb comments about this game that I found:
"Who cares about that? When Halo: Reach is coming out?"
Despite the fact that they will launch months apart. And that is one of the best things about FPS games. If one is not your style there are about a hundred others.
"The movies they reference are from the 70's."
No, most are from the 80's and 90's. Besides should the mention Transformers?
Play at home! Take these dumb comments and post a reply! Just like I just did! It's Fun!
