After the success of dedicated consoles based on the General Instrument AY-3-XXXX chip series the next step in its evolution was the creation of a single console which could play all those games through the use of cartridges which contained the relevant game chips. GIMINI 8600 systems were marketed from 1977 into the early 1980s and were mostly popular in Europe.
The consoles are sometimes referred to as the PC-50X family. This is based on the cartridge numbers on the most common type of cartridges.
The concept was adopted by multiple manufacturers and thus released under many names, often with incompatible cartridge formats:
