The ultimate follow-up of the ultimate railroad simulation game.
The Good
Whenever I see a sequal, I alway get suspisious. Especially when it's a sequal to a very original and very good game. But somehow Railroad Tycoon II manages to beat it predecessor. It's bigger, it's much more beautiful, it has much more options, it has more and better gameplay, ... it's better.
Some might not like it because it has no in-your-face action, but that's the beauty of it, you just sit back and relax while trying to manage your trains.
And did I already tell you it looks extremely good?
The Bad
hmm, nothing really.
The Bottom Line
This one is not for the trigger happy guys, but for those who enjoy fiddling with all the little settings and see what happens.

The Good
A failthfull update of the orginal.
The Bad
For some reason that I can not explain this game was in no way as addictive as the orginal. I was so excited to play this sequal but when I finished a couple of hours of play I just put it down and havent played it since. Overall I liked what I saw but the game was dry and couldnt hold my attention, at all.
The Bottom Line
Dont bother. unless someone gives you a copy.

A good game but not worthy of the name Railroad Tycoon 2
The Good
Graphics are good. Trains are just cool. The stock market is modeled very well. It's not maybe very realistic but it's fun and that's the main thing. Some people like the added micromanagement but I don't.
The Bad
Micromanagement is sometimes horrible. I have tried to enjoy scenario based games like this one but often find that I can't like this time. The graphics are 2d but quiet slow.
The Bottom Line
The sequal to Railroad Tycoon 1. The player manages trains and makes profit. Pure capitalism at it's best.

Trivia
Development
Although the name suggests this is a sequel to the famous Railroad Tycoon from MicroProse, it is technically not a sequel. PopTop developed the game completely independent of the old game, and changed the title to Railroad Tycoon 2 when they obtained the rights to the name from MicroProse.
Phil Steinmeyer says that the train graphics were created by "photographing relatively cheap model trains rather than hiring a horde of artists to create them in a program like 3D Studio Max".
