Least we forget to say; Miami Vice is billed as a 3rd person operated game with free roaming and numerous encounters and missions - 16 of them. The player can embark on dangerous raids and fast-moving gunfights in a bid to bring justice to nightclubs and warehouses of Miami. Are they being serious? Well in theory yes, but in practice it is hard to have any enthusiasm for this game. The Jan Hammer sound track still sounds as good as it was originally but sadly Miami Vice is well past its sell by date!

It's kind to say that Miami Vice hasn't got much going for it and it seems targeted at the tiniest audience; not many kids are going to want to relive those Eighties memories they don't have while adults will be put off by the simple and mediocre nature of the gameplay. The graphics and sound are average at best and this is such an unoriginal action game that I can't see it holding any gamer's attention. This really is a classic example of an obsolete license that should never have been made into a game. At least it is a budget game though, so if you really want to ruin your day, you can do it for little money. But as for me, I'm left with either a tea coaster or a Frisbee. [Or how about two uses in one - it's a coaster, AND it's a Frisbee! Just don't use it as both at the same time, because that could make a mess…

There are times when Tubbs or Sonny can interact with the environment. Ladders can be climbed, doors kicked in and the way jumps are done are quite interesting. Instead of having a “jump” button, an icon will appear on screen. Walking a bit further to the end of the ledge will cause the player to automatically jump over the gap. This can save for those frustrating moments, especially in 3D games, were so much time can be wasted trying to judge the simplest of jumps. Like the TV show, this game is pasts its time. A few years back this could have been an average action game, but its 2004 and with technology the way it is, we simply expect a higher quality game.

Boomtown
If this had been made just a few years ago, three or four maybe, then it could have been an average but not exceptional title. Gamers have rightly come to expect better, especially in the PC world. The graphics, sound, AI, level design, controls and gameplay are all poorly implemented. With all of these factors working against it there is really almost nothing to recommend it.
