Purgatorio
Description
Purgatorio is a short freeware AGS adventure game, created by Jonathan Lynch for a college project. It tells the story of Frank O'Shea, who is knocked unconscious during a peacekeeping mission. He wakes up wounded in an unknown, but strangely familiar town. As he explores the surroundings, he discovers it is largely deserted and the few people present have unusual habits.
The horror and isolation-themed game world is made up entirely of photos from the developer's home town, including an digitally edited rendition of himself as the protagonist. These elements are mixed with drawn art and music he created himself. The general visual style is reminiscent of Soviet Unterzogersdorf. A large part of the game is spent exploring, with a few puzzles and conversations.
The game uses a point-and-click interface, combined with a menu interface at the top of the screen, to walk around, examine, pick up, use, and an inventory. A few of the puzzles are time-based and it is possible to die.
