Description

A group of young Japanese filmmakers decide to shoot a horror film in a mansion with a troubled past. But as they enter the mansion, the horror becomes reality. Strange sounds, dead bodies, monsters and other terrible things haunt the mansion. The young people, guided by the protagonist of the game, called "Camera Man", have no choice but to explore the house and its history, and to find out the answer for all the questions.

"The Fear" is an interactive movie in the true sense of the word. Featuring live actors and full-motion video, the game occupies 4 DVDs. Unlike many other interactive movies, you actually have control over your actions in "The Fear". You can move from first-person perspective, each movement being shown as a full-motion video. There are also some puzzles to solve and even short action sequences.

One of the best FMV based games out there!

The Good
One of the things that stands out with this game is the quality of the FMV. Forget the other FMV games where you have grainy FMV, this game has full screen, dvd quality FMV which really stands out.

The acting was a top notch performance as the actors seemed very professional so it's no cheap cast. Even though I understood very little of the dialogue, I fully enjoyed the experience as the game gives you the feeling of actually been there.

The gore surprised me in this game, it has to be the most goriest game I've ever played. With it been a DVD FMV game, the detail of the gore scenes are highly detailed so the scenes look real. I'm still surprised that this hasn't been banned!

The Bad
For me, I found that since the game is in full Japanese, I couldn't get fully immersed into the story as much as I would of liked but for people who understand Japanese, this game must be awesome! Saying that though, I found it fairly easy to get through the game with little knowledge of the language.

The Bottom Line
The controls are really simple. You use the D-Pad to move your character forwards, back etc... and you use X to use things and open doors etc.. There are 6 different endings and which route you go through the game, determines which ending you get. Throughout the game, you will be asked questions with a choice of 2 answers which, depending on your answer, changes your way through the mansion and ultimately the ending.

If you are also into your Japanese girls, this game won't disappoint as the cast is mainly 18-24 year old girls with the odd male character in there.

This game is very atmospheric and puts you on edge as you get the feel of the mansion through your video camera.
