You’ll know this game is something special from the just after the title screen, when the screen scrolls the diary entry of Lester Knight Chaykin away from you, Star Wars-style, the music blaring, imploring you to respond to its fanfare. If you’re a persistent type like me, you’ll play and die, and play and die, and persevere, and see Lester through to the game’s touching sequel-demanding conclusion. Then you’ll how truly special Out of This World is from the moment cold waters grip you, to the moment the alien skies fade from your view. If you haven't experienced it, don't wait any longer.

The tough call is it's FunFactor. If OOTW is fresh territory to you, you'll find the game extremely entertaining, with deep, involving gameplay. If you've played it before, you won't find anything new to really pull you in - it's deja vu all over again. Even the original passwords work. Make no mistake: There's little wrong with OOTW that's worth nothing. It's just a case of "been there, don that" for many gamers.

Great presentation, complimentary sound effects and captivating cinema-style gameplay - what more can I say? If you found Cruise For a Corpse a bit too cerebral to get to grips with, then get your hands on this. A barnstormer.

The success of Another World influenced several notable future games such as Flashback. It also helped bury the notion that a more coherent, movie-like game had to have reels of real-life film and real-life actors in it. For the first time, the potential of videogames to induce empathy in the player was being realised, rather than just provide pretty ways to test your reflexes and puzzle solving skills. Plots and characters are ten a penny in videogames these days, but back then finding a game to involve you on an intellectual as well as instinctive level was almost impossible. For being a thought provoking game Another World deserves to be commended.

Near-perfect graphics (it's the animation and stylised approach that do it) are combined with wonderfully appropriate sound effects some truly breathtaking setpieces. Despite obvious reference points (Impossible Mission, Prince of Persia, Cruise For a Corpse), Another World is one of a kind. Let's hope that doesn't remain true for too long.

Out of This World is a landmark game for a host of reasons, from the 2D polygonal work to its excellent narrative. I think what strikes me most about the game, even today, is its ability to tell a compelling story without holding up flashing signs. Without text or speech, you have to find the game's emotional core on your own as well as solve its series of challenges. If you want to see a major influence in motion, hunt down a copy of Out of This World for the PC or consoles. Or, if you want the purest experience, dust off an Amiga. The reward is worth the effort.

While it doesn't stand the test of time as well as say, a 32-bit version of Flashback, it's still an excellent representation of early attempts to increase the scope and scale of your run of the mill side scrolling action games.

ANOTHER WORLD wohl keine Hemmungen gekannt. Weiter so!

Music is used very effectively here, changing pace to suit what's happening on screen, and conveying the feeling of tension brilliantly. Sound used to complement story so well is something of a rarity. True, this version is slower in places, but not so much so that it becomes unworkable. Otherwise this is very similar game to the
Amiga one, with few graphical changes.
A nicely presented, involving cart, then, but (you guessed it) there's one big problem, and that's the lack of long-term playability. This game simply isn't going to last you a long time. To complete each section, a repetitive trial and error approach has to be adopted - there's no
other way to do it - and to make this sort of
mucking around acceptable, frequent passwords are given out. The problem this
creates, of course, is that with only 14 sections to get through, and so much user-
friendliness, you'll finish it in no time.

The game is basically action-based, with some elements of adventure and tactical planning. It is extremely long, and can sometimes get frustrating during long levels. After each completed level, you are supplied with a code for accessing the next one, so you don't have to start from the beginning every time. As I have stated before, the sound and graphics are excellent for the time, and the gameplay is varied and certain to keep you busy for some time. Definitely worth a look, so go ahead and download!

Those working their way through Out of This World should be prepared to repeat sections of the game dozens of times. The loose controls are not help in action series, and can also make platforming sections difficult. Still, Out of This World remains one of the most emotionally charged games of the 16-bit era and an important part of gaming history.

For some it’s a chance for reminiscence, and for others a chance to experience one of the most absorbing adventure games around. Another World offers a glimpse of what gaming life was like back in 1991. It’s available in the shops RRP £14.99, though you can probably find it for £9.99 online - great value for money. Anyone who classes themselves as a true gamer should experience it and modern developers could learn a lot by revisiting the game. Another World shows you can achieve amazing things with a low budget that turn out to be very rewarding experiences.

Out Of This World is among most praised PC games out of the DOS era. Rightly so, it is a landmark game in the action adventure subgenre. The game has reached past its cult status and has become a timeless classic. Beyond Flashback, the game has also spawned an official sequel (but only for the Sega Mega-CD console) titled Heart of the Alien, in which the player assumes the role of the alien from Out Of This World. Sadly, Chahi is not involved in the making of this sequel. As with most adventure games of the past, you will need to a little patience to get into this game. Once you do, however, Out Of This World is a very rewarding and intriguing gaming experience.

This port may not be the best version of Out of this World. Nevertheless, the game still is deeply involving - though the impatient player will not get the true quality out of it. Try to gain some patience, and give it a try, and you'll go through a unique and intriguing gaming experience, even compared to many of today's video games.

AmigaACE (Advanced Computer Entertainment)
Another World is a most peculiar game to rate. It isn't going to keep you occupied for the rest of your life, since it's actually quite a small game and the action progresses at quite a pace. However, for the time while you are learning about it's subtieties, it's most engaging. At its most basic level, it's an interesting departure from the graphic style of most arcade adventures. Gamers fond of hefty adventure elements in their arcade adventures, however, may find Another World rather lacking, since the game is virtually bereft of object manipulation or anything but the simplest problems to solve.

SNESJust Games Retro
This game is one of the few that genuinely deserve the "adventure" title. Its attempts to create situations similar to a high-budget action movie are noble, and generally work out. If Out of This World has a major fault, it's that it is a very short game, perhaps taking 2 1/2 to 3 hours at most to beat. This assumes you know exactly what you're doing, and that you don't get caught by one of the insta-kill traps or a guard's laser blast. In fact, the ease of death is the only thing that will draw out the length of the game. None of the puzzles are particularly tricky to figure out, it's just that pulling them off without dying is tricky. But if you're looking for a classic adventure game in the vein of Prince of Persia, and have the patience to deal with such a game, you definitely should play this, if you haven't already.

DOSThe Good Old Days
As you play the game you feel as part of a living world. The mood is well done, and there is something continuously happening. The game is basically divided in scenes. In each of them there is only one solution. But by how the game works, by how those scenes are made and joined, and by how the actions and reactions are coordinated is how the game acquires life.

Ano wiele. Dżwiękowo Another World jest o dziwo bardzo przyzwoity. Myślę bowiem, że nawet za 10 lat Another World będzie czarował przynajmniej graczy-koneserów.

Unremitting and unkind, Another World constantly serves to remind us of how easy we have it these days. Like so many horror films before it, it might not strictly feel like straightforward fun, but it is undoubtedly an enjoyable experience. Far more like reading a nightmarish novel than playing the latest generic shooter, Another World will not be to everyone's taste, but for those looking for something darker, it is a compelling adventure worth every penny of the budget price tag.

Interplay could have used the 3DO conversion as an opportunity to expand the game, but they missed their chance. The result is that, apart from the aesthetic improvements, there is nothing new here; it's just the same game in a different package. Which is no bad thing, but most of us have seen it all before.

So krankt "Another World" an den gleichen Symptomen, an denen schon die "Space Ace"-Familie dahinsiechte.

Another World ist und bleibt DAS Kultspiel überhaupt.
