Missing
- Missing (2003 on Windows, Macintosh)
Description
Ex-cop Melvin travels to the Greenview Inn, where his wife Elle and his son David have gone missing. They have a rocky marriage and Elle told David she needed some time alone to things over. When he can no longer reach them, he visits the inn himself to trace them himself. After gathering clues and strange appearances, it becomes apparent something fishy is going on.
Missing is a horror point-and-click adventure game built on OHRRPGCE (Official Hamster Republic Role Playing Game Construction Engine). The gameplay is similar to classic ICOM games such as Shadowgate, Uninvited and the Deja Vu series. Views of the different locations take up two thirds of the screen. On the right is an inventory and arrows to move around between rooms. At the bottom of the screen, all dialogues and descriptions are shown. The game consists entirely of still images, with a few animations when walking down stairs or opening a door. The game is entirely controlled by the mouse, with all functions combined using the left button. When searching locations, no indication of text is given when hovering over an item, it needs to be clicked to be examined, used or picked up.
The game takes place in 1990 over 4 days. During the first day, there is an in-game help system with hints. If you discover the number of Raja the oracle, you can call the number to receive a clue about what to do next. The entire game is played inside the inn, with a few spots outside and the locations change according to the time of day. Melvin needs to explore the different rooms, talk to characters and do research by contacting his friend Steve Middaugh. Sound effects and music enhance the creepy atmosphere.
