Gourmania 2: Great Expectations
Description
After losing her job, Candy visits her old uncle seeking his support and advice. The old man invites her to reform and run his diner business. As she starts to rebuild the abandoned café back to working conditions, new opportunities for expansion become available, also attracting dangerous enemies and other obstacles.
Gourmania 2: Great Expectations combines the gameplay of three casual genres, showing separate sections featuring hidden object hunts, time management and point-and-click adventure puzzles. Most of the time, the objective is to find all the ingredients and prepare a series of dishes for waiting customers. The patrons appear on a column at the right side of the screen, each displaying a patience meter and, when selected, a list of the required ingredients for their order. Most of the screen state is occupied by the storage area, with assorted condiments and other main components scattered around the scenery. A hint button at the bottom-right corner shows the position of one of the required items when activated, but takes some time to recharge after use.
All the ingredients must be found and clicked to complete an order, with some recipes requiring an extra preparation step like slicing, frying and other cooking activities appearing on a menu below the customer's portrait. There's a minimum amount of money that must be achieved before the time is up and the café is closed, with large sums giving an expert rating. The patience meter starts to decrease as soon as the customer appears on the waiting column, with individuals leaving the establishment in anger when their orders are not filled in time. Satisfied patrons give bonus money as tips.
The funds are used to reform the diner, with several tools available to be bought from a menu at the top-right and used to clean, paint and decorate the ruined exterior of the place. Furniture can be acquired and placed around the front entrance, and the broken sign repaired by finding all the scattered pieces. New levels with increased difficulty become available after finishing all the pending tasks. New businesses become available to be purchased after completing all the stages and objectives.
The adventure section appears between levels, where the player has to collect a series of objects and use them to solve puzzles on a separate location. The items are stored inside the inventory tray at the bottom, from where they can be dragged and dropped on interactive portions of the scenery to complete a task or perform an action.
