CyberSpace Crossword

CyberSpace Crossword is a freeware three dimensional crossword puzzle.

The player starts at a point in cyberspace some distance above the puzzle and navigates to it using three slider controls that adjust the player viewpoint in each of the three dimensions. The sliders to the left and to the bottom allow the player to look up, down, left and right; the slider to the right allows the player to move forward or backward along the direction the camera is pointing.

Upon nearing the puzzle the game begins and the player is offered the first clues. Cell 1 is preselected for the player to enter a letter. None of the cells are numbered, however when selected a cell changes colour and any associated clues are displayed in a window in the lower right corner of the game area. Answers are entered letter by letter and to do this the player must select each cell individually, enter a letter, then select the next cell, enter the next letter and so on.

The game has no help function and the player cannot progress to the second puzzle until the first has been correctly completed. The game is controlled with the mouse and the letters are entered via the keyboard.

The game is also called CyberSpace Cruiser throughout the documentation, and it contains an offer to purchase "virtual real estate in cyberspace": by paying 40 dollars, a player could claim part of the game's virtual space for himself, which would then be marked with his name in all future releases of CyberSpace Cruiser. The player could then store up to 32 kilobytes of data in the owned part of cyberspace (upon logging in with a username and password), effectively functioning as an elaborate form of clipboard. According to the documentation, the program also contains network support: when installed on a network, multiple users can log in from their computers, see the other users moving around in cyberspace, and converse with them.
