1000 Words is a word puzzle game set in ancient Greece. As a young apprentice of Xerxes, you get one opportunity to leave the peasant life and take a stab at gold and glory, by challenging mythical figures and gods. Gameplay is based on anagrams. You start with a mix of six letters and you have to construct words of different length. You move an arrow-shaped cursor with the buttons and pick the letters you want to use for your word. When a word is formed, you earn points, a meter fills up, and new letters appear on your tablet.

Next to the story mode, the three game modes can also be played in the Quickplay mode:

Classical: Find as many words of different length as you can before time elapses.

6-Letter Challenge: Find the 6 letter word in a given number of tries.

Evolution: Find words of specific length before time runs out.

While playing, you earn bonuses that give you extra time or freeze it, guess a word for you and shuffle the letters. You can also receive penalties from your opponent that empty your bonus gauge, mirror your letters or even hide them. You receive bonuses by discovering the six-letter word consecutively, and penalties if you take too long to enter a word.

There is a high score screen for each mode and a tutorial explaining the basics. The game offers sound effects and music, along with an overview map in the quest mode, and pre-game screens where your opponents offer some pearls of wisdom.
