American Gladiators

All in all this is a somewhat fun game based on a somewhat fun show and it might bring you a few afternoons of mindless relaxation, but it’s by no means a great classic. Just an average thing to put the mind at ease, while your fingers do the work.

When you play the game enough, it becomes too easy. It isn't even a challenge anymore. The only contest is in versing another human. For some people, like me, the game is fun to play occasionally. But I know that there are people who can't stand the game. The best way to figure out if you like this one is to try it for yourself. But don't pay too much for it.

American Gladiators ist zusammenfassend mal wieder eine typische TV-Serien-Versoftung von GameTek, die sowohl in Sachen Präsentation als auch Gameplay-technisch lieblos und öde daherkommt. Anstatt aus der kultigen Vorlage und dem vorhandenen Potential ein gutes Spiel zu machen, verwurstelt GameTek das ganze lieber in einer mühsam steuerbaren und abwechslungsarmen Minispielsammlung. Schade drum. Spart euch das Geld und zieht euch lieber die neuen Folgen rein.

Overall, this game is pretty much your classic bad game. Don't pay your three bucks for it and put it in your collection. It has miserable sound, fairly mediocre graphics, and an A.I. that will make you want to rip your shirt in a Hulkamania fashion. So, go find some sweet American Gladiators clips on YouTube, dare I say watch the new stuff with Hulk Hogan, brother, but don't play this game very much. It's not fun and it's very irritating. Its disappointing enough to go on a 'roid rage afterwards.

Should you complete all the events without, well, without turning the machine off basically, you get to compete in the Eliminator - a true test of digit stamina. Eight separate mini challenges form the ultimate test at the end of the game, although most of them just require you to hit the joypad buttons rapidly.

American Gladiators reiht sich ein in die lange Liste der miesen Lizenzspiele, aber wo die meisten wenigstens noch für 5 Minuten Spaß bringen, ist das hier einfach nur eine Qual.

Overall, this was either rushed or a low-priority project - take your pick. The events are faithfully adapted, but the controls fall clearly short. Even if you were a Gladiators fanatic, I can't see this lasting more than a couple rentals, or a couple successful tournaments.

The main thing that's needed is for the events that make up a Gladiators tournament to be translated into challenging, playable games. But they're not. They're useless. The graphics are weedy, the controls are mainly of the 'hit L and R as fast as you can' variety and they're no fun at all.

Habe ich in einigen meiner anderen Reviews schon erwähnt, dass man es damals einfach drauf hatte gute Lizenztitel zu programmieren, so beweist dieses Machwerk grandios das Gegenteil. Oder um es mathematisch auszudrücken: was ergibt "schlechte Steuerung + schlampige Programmierung + nerviger Sound - nette Grafik"? An der Antwort werden entweder noch viele Spielehistoriker Jahrzehnte lang forschen müssen, oder man schaut sich einfach dieses Spiel an. Dies ist übrigens keines der schlechten Spiele, die so schlecht sind, dass sie schon wieder gut sind, sondern dieses Spiel ist einfach NUR schlecht!
