Wallace & Gromit in Project Zoo

Moby ID: 13504

Summary

The light-feathered felon McGraw is back, and this time the pilfering penguin has his sights set on kidnapping baby animals from the local zoo. Playing as Gromit, Wallace's silent canine side-kick, it's up to you to get to the bottom of this mammal-nabbing mystery, and clip McGraw's feathers - for good.

Details

Following the phenomenal success of Aardman's previous animated TV outings, including Creature Comforts and The Wrong Trousers, the claymation characters make their 3D debut on PlayStation 2. Wensleydale-loving Wallace and his mute mutt Gromit stumble on Feathers' latest nefarious scheme, and find themselves implicated in a diamond-mining plot involving the local zoo's residents, and some evil monkeys to boot.

Entering the fray as bipedal pooch Gromit, you'll explore a variety of areas in search of equipment to repair Wallace's gadgetry (bolts, natch), and tote some impressive home-made weaponry provided by the bumbling inventor. Amongst the goodies on offer are: a porridge gun, a coal flinger, a banana launcher and a turnip cannon, for full-on comedy assaults. It's all fairly standard 3D platformer stuff, but Nick Park's unique brand of quirky animation raises Wallace & Gromit above the average run-jump-collect stuff type adventure.

Features

  • Wield a collection of crazy weaponry, including a turnip cannon and a porridge gun

  • Play puzzles and unlock hidden features such as video interviews with Wallace and Gromit creator Nick Park

  • Play 24 different missions throughout the zoo

The game takes full advantage of the PS2, Xbox and GameCube console capabilities, with features such as high polygon count models to give smooth-looking characters, techniques like multi-texturing, environment-mapping, dynamic and specular lighting, shadowing and depth of field to deliver great graphical quality, plus cutting-edge in-game animation that's faithful to the Oscar-winning films.

Frontier has co-operated closely with Aardman on artwork, scripting and other aspects of the production in order to emphasise the charisma of both the well known and new characters, complemented (of course) by the Wallace and Gromit humour we've come to know and love.

Nick Park commented: "Video games are an exciting new medium for Aardman and we’re delighted that BAM! and ourselves are working with a studio of Frontier’s standing on introducing Wallace and Gromit to a brand new audience."

Wallace & Gromit are bringing distinctly offbeat British humor to the Nintendo GameCube with their first videogame adventure.

The Claymation duo of Gromit, a pooch whose floppy ears conceal a shrewd brain, and Wallace, his incessantly yapping master, must liberate a zoo from a maniacal penguin named Feathers McGraw.

In 24 missions across six levels, you will control Gromit, whose many moves include back flips and head spins. Nature has outfitted Wallace with seriously dorky threads and an inability to keep his mouth shut, but amidst his nonstop prattle are some genuinely useful hints.

Wallace will also contribute zany inventions such as the Springy Boots, Gyrocopter, Porridge Gun and Trojan Penguin, but of course it's up to Gromit (and you) to actually make 'em work. Putting the kibosh on Feathers' dastardly plan will require Gromit to occasionally make like fellow Brit James Bond and perform stealth moves.

When previewed at the recent E3 Expo in Los Angeles, the graphics seemed to be coming along nicely. Detailed characters and animation will bring these much-loved characters to life. Publisher BAM! promises a jolly-good adventure filled with movie show-biz parodies.
