The buzz in the forums makes clear that many contributors are looking forward to seeing more platforms added. Just yesterday we added the browser platform and there are many more we would like to open up in the near future. However, the amount of submissions steadily keeps increasing over the years while our approval team has more or less remained the same in size. To keep the waiting time for contributions reasonable without putting too much strain on the approvers (this is all done on a voluntary basis), we are looking for new contributors to join our ranks. We have opened up some new spots but even if there isn't a position available for your platform of choice, there is no harm in inquiring. New approvers of a certain platform should preferably have 1,000 points to show they're familiar with the site and its standards. You can also start slow and then work your way up with additional responsibilities. Make sure you can put in some time on a regular basis and you take the task seriously. There are always approvers at hand to introduce you to the inner workings. Existing approvers with some spare time are also encouraged to expand their territory, you only need to ask. You will not only be helping the site grow, you also get the opportunity to discuss the internal workings of the site and the priceless chatter among the approval team. We hope to welcome some new approver applications, it's the only way to bring the queue back to proportion and make new platforms available. Admins also often need to let the corrections linger because much attention is needed in the regular queues and we would like to change that. At the same time, we say goodbye to some approvers who have been inactive for quite some time now. Syed GJ, Yobu, JPaterson, Luis Silva and Bazajt - thanks for the many hours you spent reviewing submissions and the best of luck with your future endeavours. I tried to apply to be a approver for the Jaguar, but I got some sort of error.

I had the same problem in applying for PS3. BTW, Atari Jaguar might be a tad boring. According to my research, MobyGames has 100% coverage for all known Jaguar releases, at least in the U.S. http://multimedia.cx/mobygames/ ![]() Multimedia Mike Wrote:

100 %? 100 % screenshots, cover scans, credits and ISBN numbers? There's more to approving than just game entries. ![]() Игги Друге Wrote: Multimedia Mike Wrote:

100 %? 100 % screenshots, cover scans, credits and ISBN numbers? There's more to approving than just game entries. You know, you're right. My limited view must have blinded me to that fact, honestly. I have such a habit of doing the "whole game" approach myself. After I finish submitting a game, there really isn't that much left to do. Not to brag or anything. :-) (Edited by Indra Depari of 'da Clan Depari Re: New approvers wanted Indra Depari of 'da Clan Depari Can my split personalities apply? She has better taste than I do. :p
She will hit all the wrong buttons with her tentacles.
I'm tempted, but scared... excited but apprehensive. Do I dare apply? Am I even fit? Many questions... few answers! O_OOn the one hand, something has to feed my OCD... but on the other hand, i haven't even submitted all the games i have sitting here yet. Maybe I should make a poll. ;) Considering your interests, you could take a look in the PSX section. Most of your submissions were there so you should be acquainted with the practises =)
Yeah, that's why i was a little hesitant. I couldn't see any openings in the psx section of the site, so i thought to myself "do i play enough xbox/xbox360 to warrant me being a part of that?".I'd like to give it a go if there's room for one more psx person though. :) ps. that's where the bigger part of my unsubmitted games are located too. On the psx, that is. :)
Just be aware that you won't be able to approve your own submissions! =P
Then I'm totally not interested!!!;) I would like to become an approver of browser games as I know lots about them (Pretty much all I play now my Xbox 360 died) but the option wasn't in the list.
Thanks, we'll get back to you about this.
Still nobody answers me. I have over 500 points in screenshots. I would be great at approving screenshots ! I've seen some on this site that are butt ugly. How they got there I'll never know. That's what I know most about.
And still you don't read the threads you post in: New approvers of a certain platform should preferably have 1,000 points to show they're familiar with the site and its standards.
Quote from the approver fill out- "You should have a minimum of 500 to 1000 contribution points in different areas. ".
It has become much easier to amass points recently - that page will be updated. Still, points only prove a potential approver is familiar with some to most aspects of the site, there are other criteria to consider as well.
Points is one thing, but do put it in other words: New approvers of a certain platform should preferably have 1,000 points to show they're familiar with the site and its standards.Users applying not for a certain submission type (all screenshots, all release info, etc.), but for a certain platform (you know, PC, Wii, N64 etc.). This also means that users must be experienced with all the related things, like dealing with a fully stuffed game entry submission. I'm pretty familiar with Windows games.
What about me? Can I become an approver?Daniel look up Mutimedia's Mike's missing lists and get an emulator. That should get you more points and expand the content you submit. You are discussed in the Appovers forum, which you cannot access, and things are looking up for you.
Just been told by Sciere that I have been approved as an approver. Woohoo.

looking at your contribution rating... everything you have submitted... I would have to say no at this point... you need to contribute and be familar with more types of submissions before I can make you an approver
Ok, what areas am I lacking in exactly ? Social competence. Besides, it's not approving screenshots that is the hard part. Rejecting them is.
I would know what to reject. This is the worst screenshot I've ever seen on this site ! Or, almost as bad as those old Carnivore screenshots.
Then you can start with submitting corrections for all bad screenshots you can find.
Those were submitted five or six years ago. Trust me, approving screenshots is no big deal.
It's really not just about saying yes or no to screenshots - you have to invest the energy in researching submissions yourself, doing the legwork (or keywork), finding ever new ways to verify stuff: release dates, platforms, everything that is submitted for a game, including being able to edit descriptions.* What I see from you is that you could certainly do that if you put the effort into it, but you need to prove that to the approvers by making a better effort with your own submissions. Who knows what could happen in the future? *This is the hardest thing to find time for - sometimes (often?) I have to admit to just throwing up my hands and hitting the skip button :) Edit - OK, very often. Ok, I might not be ready to be a approver yet. But now I have some idea what it would be like.
Here's a good tip if you're ready to become an approver:When you submit a game it gets approved without getting WIP-ed. That basically means you have provided enough material for the approver not to question your submission. *which also means I'm losing my touch...last game got WIP-ed twice* heh. ![]() DANIEL HAWKS ! So was I. After becoming an approver, shows how much I know. Especially after hearing a few tech lines from Iggy, Oliver, Pseudo and Servo. After that, I'm so thankful of how much I don't know. :) ![]() Sciere Wrote:

Oh this is awesome. I decided to take the plunge and attempted to apply: There was a database error while submitting the form. An error report has been submitted and will be looked into shortly. Cool ! We posted at the same time ! And I got that error as well.
Things one (may) expect when one becomes an approver:[1] Nerdy sensation of pride, hence entering the inner circle of MG bots. [2] Paranoia, anxiety, when you're wondering if whether you just approved, WIPed back or rejected a submission. [3] Trying to figure out what the hell the other approvers are talking about in the approver forums. [4] Trying to figure out what the hell the other approvers are talking about in MG wiki. [5] Trying to figure out what the hell anything means now, since you have access to all these techno information that would make Einstein give up science. [6] Trying to figure out what the hell the contributor meant in the comments. [7] Trying to figure out which sources are valid, which aren't...and finding out most aren't...but you thought it was valid when you were still "only" contributing. [8] Realizing suddenly your MG mailbox suddenly get filled up so fast after being an approver. [9] Wondering whether the admins are actual people or automated response messages. :) [10] Almost applies to everyone in MG for that matter. :p With the exception of #8 and #9, you hit the nail on the head :)
Well, #9 is an exception just because we're pretty sure they're bots!

I wanted to try to enroll earlier, but there was no vacant positions for DOS or Windows.
So if someone gets the error while applying does their application still go through?
I don't think it does currently. Brian, the site's programmer, has been informed about it.

So if one wanted to apply should they just post in this thread that they want to become an approver? I wouldn't mind helping out on either the xbox or 3DO if they need assistance. :) Yes, for now until it's been fixed.
Well, it's nice idea, but what about Windows or DOS? Waiting for some weeks for approving new game or credits drives me crazy (and not only me, of course).PS: Yes, I dont't know about situation with another platforms or submission types. Maybe, it really sucks and they need more approvers. PPS: Can I become an approver? Just curious about it :) The PC approval queue is still the fastest and I don't think that adding more and more approvers to the current 21 would improve the approval time noticeably.
Is it possible to look at list of all approvers? Or just tell how much of them are working with most popular platforms?

Accountability. Heh, now that I'm an approver, I don't think I advocate that. :-) ![]() Klaster_1 Wrote:

I think I'll just wait until 2009. :P
hmm. sucks to've been kicked out.
its fair - I havent been able to contribute to the database or the approvals all that much lately. But given that I've been around for quite a while.. so much so that when on the 'about us' page linked at the bottom the post-scripts mention the year 2001, I was actually there. so just for old times sake I thought I could be given my privileges back, atleast the review approvals, which I did used to sit on every now and then anyway. it's all good. The people that were removed had only approved one or two items in the past 365 days. I'm sure you understand we make some room for people with more spare time on their hands.
![]() Sciere Wrote:

I do. I go in bursts (when I have time), thus the reason I have never requested to be an approver. While my approval rating is abysmal, please keep me on just so I don't have to bother other people with my game group proposals and developer mergers 8)
Were any new approvers for NDS and PSP added? These sections seem to be grossly underepresented. I don't even remember when the last NDS/PSP-specific game or item got approved... And no - this is not an application. It's not my time yet. I'm trying to apply for Xbox New Games approver, but it keeps coming back with an error.
Unfortunately the application system is currently broken, so we try to manually contact contributors every now and then.
Platforms in need of a lot more attention are Gameboy and Macintosh.
I'm sorry. :-)
