Dan Cermak bought his first computer when $2,500 would get you 24K of RAM - yes, 24K. A self taught programmer, Dan spent seven years trying to write games and only completed and shipped two titles. So instead, he decided to try working for the “enemy” - a publisher (Strategic Simulations Inc.). Cermak worked on almost every genre of product in just about every production position possible. After eleven years SSI was bought and sold and bought and sold and a really good thing was gone. Cermak left the west coast to work with friends at Westwood Studios, where he was the executive producer on Command & Conquer: Renegade. The studio was closed a year later, after which decided to try the Midwest and Volition. In 2009 he became vice president of product development of the studio, and in May 2011 it was announced he would become president of the company, when founder Michael Kulas stepped down after eighteen years. On 27 September 2017, Cermak was one of over 30 people who were laid off from Volition following the unsatisfactory fiscal performance of Agents of Mayhem.
